Energy Healing

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a growing healing modality that is based on energetic principles used for health and wellness. It is used in many hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical settings all around the world.

You may have heard of Reiki by other names like Prana, Chi, or Qi. It is the life force energy that flows through all living things. When this energy is not flowing freely as it should, it becomes weak and/or imbalanced. This contributes or leads to physical, mental, and emotional diseases. 

This practice consists of a Reiki practitioner using certain hand placements beginning at a client's head or feet, I begin at the head and work my way down towards the feet.

What does Reiki feel like?

Although the effects of Reiki feel subtle, you  may feel a slight tingling sensation, heat, or energy at the area of a practitioner's hand placements. Sometimes, you may feel nothing at all. Some clients have reported that they feel a sense of peace and calm in their mind and body, others have claimed that they felt it more intensely. 

What clients feel depends on how their particular body senses energy. Every client has reported that once the session was complete, they felt very pleasant and relaxed, as if they just received a massage. 

Reiki is safe for everybody, at any age and stage of their life.

What are Reiki sessions like?

For in person Reiki sessions, a client can be laying down, or sitting comfortably on a chair. There is nothing else required but an open mind. 

Some Reiki practitioners prefer to use touch in specific hand positions, and others prefer non-touch where the hands are a few inches above the body. I practice Reiki using non-touch, as this allows me to feel the client's energy to gauge where the most blockages or imbalances are.  

For sessions via distance, a day and time is arranged when the client will be in a comfortable setting ready and open to receive Reiki energy. On my end, I begin preparing 30 minutes prior to the appointment, to allow myself to get into a meditative state. ​More details are provided in an email after booking an appointment. 


More common questions about Reiki

 

What should I do to prepare for a session?

I highly recommend that you avoid alcohol, red meat, heavily processed sugary items (like ice cream), smoking, and the use of any recreational drugs 12 hours before, and 48 hours after your session. Please also avoid eating a heavy meal one hour before, and try to stay hydrated. Setting the intention of receiving Reiki energy for the purpose of creating a healing environment in your body will amplify the effects. I recommend that you wear comfortable clothing, whether your session is in person or via distance. 

How will I feel after a session?

Please be prepared for a spiritual detox.  This can manifest physically (like a dietary detox), or emotionally. To help it along, it is important to care for your body after the session by staying hydrated and eating healthy foods, as your body's energy will now be functioning at an optimal rate. Specifically, I recommend that you temporarily reduce or eliminate the following: alcohol, coffee or caffeine, smoking, recreational drugs, eating highly processed or fried foods, as well as meat (if you can't go without meat, try and reduce the portion of red meat). These eliminations create a highly acidic body and make it difficult for the Reiki benefits to take place.

How long is each session?

 

Each session is 45 minutes long. I will distribute the time among the 7 main energy centers (chakras) and will spend time focusing on any areas that need more focus. 

What if I don't feel anything during my session?

Although it is possible that you may not feel anything, it is unlikely. However, Reiki energy is very subtle and if you don't feel any sensations during the session, you will notice a difference afterwards. Similar to receiving a massage or physical therapy, oftentimes it will take several sessions in order to notice the benefits. To this date, I've never had a client that didn't feel anything during their session, even during distance sessions :)  

What are some of the other benefits of Reiki?

Reiki is a great tool that is used to help in all areas of wellness. Please note that it is not a cure to treat a disease or illness, but it assists the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing. Can I talk during a session?

Absolutely! If you're new to Reiki, we can chat prior to booking your session so that I may answer any questions that are not included here. It is also okay to talk during your session, especially if you are curious about the sensations that you are feeling or if you are experiencing any discomfort and wish to adjust your body. 

How do distance sessions work?

Reiki is not constrained by space and time because at a molecular level, we are all energy that is connected and we can affect one another. Have you ever noticed how someone's mood can affect others in that same room? Or maybe you've thought of someone and all of a sudden you receive a call or text from that person? 

At first, it can be difficult to understand how energy can be sent without a tangible connection for it to flow through. Much like the internet, electricity, or a radio all use frequencies that we can't see, and have to be tuned to the particular frequency they operate at in order to function, distant Reiki works the same way. It is energy that must be tuned to the person or animal it is being sent to so that it can flow through the energy currents that naturally exist. Distant Reiki sessions are just as powerful as in person sessions.
